Mission Statement


                The mission of the Fire District is to provide fire protection services for the residents and the tax payers of the fire district. 


Downe Township District 1 is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners who are elected by the registered voters of Downe Township.  Every year the board is responsible for submitting a budget to the State of New Jersey for review and approval.  In accordance with New Jersey Sate Law, the budget is presented to voters for acceptance, in conjunction with the election of the Fire Commissioners, which occurs in February each year.

The Commissioners of Downe Township Fire District 1 hold the powers and duties within the district for the prevention and extinguishing of fires and the regulation of fire hazard to the same extent as a municipality.  The Board can perform only those acts for which expressed or implied authority exists in law or in the rules and regulations stemming therefrom.  The Board assumes final legal, ethical, moral and financial responsibility of the district in accordance with New Jersey State Statutes.
